چکیده

The complex biochemical interactions which occur between parasites and their host cells require elucidation for a clear understanding of how an infectious process develops. Whether the reactions between microorganisms and tissues occur directly or are mediated through secondary mechanisms has been the subject of considerable discussion (Sanford, Barnett, and Gott, 1960; Gilbert, 1960; Atkins, 1960). The administration of bacterial products (e.g., endotoxins) generally elicits profound physiological changes in recipient animals, and it seems clear that many of the effects on cell metabolism are related to andrenergic mechanisms. Other studies (Yunis and Harrington, 1960; Vicari, Olitzki, and Olitzki, 1960; Cohn and Morse, 1960; Berk, Nelson, and Pickett, 1960) have shown in vitro in the absence of hormonal factors that some bacterial preparations directly affect certain mammalian enzyme systems. Many of the discrepant findings seem best explained in terms of differences in cell type employed (e.g., rabbit polymorphonuclear leukocytes, human leukemic leukocytes, mouse monocytes) and in kind of bacterial preparation tested. Previous studies in this laboratory indicated that the succinoxidase activity in vitro of mouse monocytes was depressed in the presence of dead Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Berk et al., 1960; Berk and Nelson, 1960a). In addition, other studies demonstrated that trace amounts of a pseudomonad polysaccharide (Piromen) depressed the oxidase activities of liver mitochondria (Berk and Nelson, 1960b). The studies reported here were undertaken to characterize better the nature of the inhibitory substance from pseudomonads, and to compare its action on mouse tissues with lipopolysaccharide endotoxins of other bacteria.

Attenuating Effect of Curcumin on Diet-induced Hypercholesterolemia in Mice

Background and Aims: Atherosclerosis is currently a chronic disease in which cholesterols accumulate in large arteries. Many genes such as liver X receptor α (LXRα) are involved in the cholesterol homeostasis. Curcumin, the main active polyphenol component derived from Curcuma longa, contribute to anti-inflammation and antioxidant in the treatment of atherosclerosis. Thus, this stud...

بررسی تأثیر عصاره هیدروالکلی کافور بر فعالیت آنزیم های کبدی و بافت کبد موش های سوری نر مسموم شده با تیواستامید

Background and purpose: Metabolism of many drugs and toxins is done in the liver, during metabolism of these materials, most of them cause liver poisoning. Therefore, indentifying some plants which cause live resistance against toxic metabolites is very important. In this study, influence of camphor extract on liver of Syrian male mice poisoned with tioacetamid has been considered. Materials an...

Effect of Cell Wall, Cytoplasmic Fraction and Killed-Candida albicans on Nitric Oxide Production by Peritoneal Macrophages from BALB/c Mice

Objective(s) The fractions of Candida albicans have been used as an immunomodulator. The present work assessed the effect of different fractions of C. albicans on nitric oxide (NO) production by mice peritoneal macrophages. Materials and Methods Cell wall and cytoplasmic fractions of C. albicans ATCC 10321 strain were extracted. Mice peritoneal macrophages were purified and cultured. Differen...

Conditioned Medium from Cultured Colorectal Cancer Cells Affects Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells Inflammatory Phenotype in Vitro

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide. Studies have indicated that immune cells and soluble factors play a key role in maintaining the balance between tumor-promoting inflammation and anti-tumor immunity. It has been shown that secreted cytokines from CRC cell lines could affect peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), monocytes, and macrophages phenot...
